Marie Heim-Vögtlin

The sound installation Marie Heim-Vögtlin was created in 2021 in a residency with ‘Akkademia della creazione libera’ in the house where Marie Heim-Vögtlin was born. It is primarily based on the scream as an archaic and deeply familiar means of communication. The cries that can be heard are all related in one way or another to Marie Heim-Vögtlin, the first Swiss female doctor. She worked in a maternity hospital, but was also a strong advocate for women's rights. Therefore, the installation features cries of women giving birth and cries of newborn children, but also cries or cheers of women's rights manifestations.
